Yes, Mitch Marner waives his NMC before the most important contract of his career to the San Jose Sharks.

He wants to be close with his father Patrick and his 4 cousins, as well as his little brother Macklin.

Plus Sharks will have the cap space to resign him (Bystedt or maybe even Edstrom replace Granlund with his 5mil contract coming off the books, IF Marner warrants a significant raise, which I don't think he will. I think 11mil is where he signs).

He wants $12M, that's why Leaf fans keep wanting to move him. And to go to a team not yet in their competitive window he'll want more. Sharks are rebuilding perfectly fine, they don't need Marner, the season after this one is where the Sharks will enter the UFA market with their big checkbook. You could out offer Drai more than any other team.

He's indeed done but just riding out the contract for 2 more years instead of prolonging it with cap hits for more years, we don't need the extra cap space this year.

I was 100% on board with loading up for Draisaitl before the lottery but since SJ landed Celebrini, I'd much rather spend the big contract money on either Marner or Reinhart since Celebrini-Smith will be a fine 1-2 punch down the middle for the future.

Outside of the 1st overall pick, San Jose doesn’t have anything Toronto would consider in a Marner deal. Even if you included the pick, there’s nothing to add that would entice them.m - not even worth asking Marner to waive his NMC for.

If they go after Marner that means they are going after it now so they need the cap room now, not 3 years from now.
Marner would only waive to a team going after it now I think.

Drai-Celebrini-Couts/Smith up the middle makes you guys playoff competition in two years. Or you could get Tavares or someone as a patch until they are ready. Honestly, I think Marner will slip a bit in point production separated from Matthews.

One thing to consider is that if all interested parties on the Toronto side are willing to move forward with a deal like this, Chicago is in a way better position to out-asset us to make this happen. Pretty sure the Celebrini sales pitch works way better with Bedard's name in front.

I thought the same as you but was talked into being on team buyout so the stench of giveupedness doesn't get all over our new toys.

BTW, how come we don't see you at FTF anymore?

It's my loss! Miss FTF, just didn't have the time anymore and the community had much better writers going.
