Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2024
Published: May 14, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
*Before I get comments about the AVS paying the 1st and Lehk for Barron, Harris and Pezz, please not that this is a late pick, and AVS would need to garnish their prospect list with picks they don't have anymore. Barron and Harris can play in the NHL, Barron is the only one who'd need a bit more coaching for his defensive skills, but Harris played very well and can be a 4th to 6th defenseman. AVS have Makar, Toews and Girard at defense and they cost a pretty chunk of cap, so they need players who'll cost less. This would hopefully help them at the blue line. Pezz comes in as a 4th liner depth player who cost nothing to put in the line-up.

**Draft I think Silayev will go top 4, so MTL may go for Lindstrom as expected. If so will he be ready for the NHL or go back to WHL for one more year? Not sure, but I think he may be tested at training camp to see where they'll want him. Most probable WHL. So I signed him and put him at Laval, but really he'd go to WHL.

***See if Marchessault would sign in MTL to end his career. He's worth two years at 7M$ with the points he put up. If he's playing at the level he's able to do, the contract is good for all parties, if he can't produce, he becomes a leader in the locker room and the contract is only for two years, so doesn't hurt long term and gives him the Opportunity to extend quickly the next year if he can still/wants to play.

****Long term, HABS still have 34.777M$ for 25-26 to resign Ghule, Slafkovsky, Primeau.. If they spend the total of the 34M$ in 26-27 they still have 17M$ for Reinbacher, Beck etc..

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2024 4th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Anywhere for any return picks, here I'll just choose a 4th for show
ARI
  1. Dvorak, Christian ($2,225,000 retained)
2.
MTL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Would love for him to have a decent return while he's low level hot. Maybe a third? Could be at Draft, or summer, but might have him until TDL which I hope not since his value could drop if he has another Armia year of ups and downs.
3.
MTL
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi
  2. 2024 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
AVS get rid of 4.5M$ to replace by two Defensemen that will cost them around 3M$ MAX for both; they trade away a late 1st for their own 2nd and EDM 3rd. But would pat a 1st for the cap and players. Not a huge deal given they have two 2024 and a 3rd 2025 picks more for a 1st late. They also take in Pezz who is under the 900K$ cap which helps them as they only have a bit over 9M$ left and 12 contracts for 24-25.
COL
  1. Barron, Justin [RFA Rights]
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. Pezzetta, Michael
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (COL)
  5. 2024 3rd round pick (EDM)
  6. 2025 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
MTL bring back Lehk; While Lehk has a M-NTC he may lift for Habs if it's after it kicks in. This scenarios may not please AVS fans, but it give them 3 a good NHL ready Defenseman, their prospect back in Barron and a depth player and still save at least 500K$ (if we think Barron would sign anywhere between 900K$ to 1.5M$ max). So they had NHL ready players for 1, but pay a price.

Who cares about your paragraph of an excuse that’s just dumb. COL gives up the best player and best pick in the trade and you do mental gymnastics to justify. Avs. Never. Ever. Do. Dumb.

I’m sure Colorado would much rather keep Lehkonen at $4.5M and a first. You have them acquiring 3 depth pieces that would have to go through waivers. This ain’t it.

as for turtlemountain, I understand, but in the end this is just a what if they do and the justification is that Colorado won't be able to play with 2 lines next year if they don't do some overhauling to get able bodies in their lineup. They literally have 12 contracts signed, and just 9.7M$ to add 10-11 more guys. Unless you want 30-39 year old guys at the end of their careers or guys that are completely off their rockers unable to keep decent stats (I'm not talking just point here, there are other stats that make a player than points) then yes, they'll sign 11 guy at 800K$ but will have 3/4 of a team that are unable to win.

As far being just three depth pieces, well.. Like I say in the explanation AVS play out to get depth players as they need room for Mittelstadt, They'll also need to move one of their defensemen as Toews contract kicks in... Do you guys actually think that AVS have cap space to keep MacKinnon, Rantanen, Mittelstadt, Makar, Girard, Manson, Toews, and Georgiev thinking that other teams will call them and say "yeah I'll help you out, I'll take any contract you need and give you very good value back! That's because in this league, we all help each in the love, help and respect triangle we sow!"..

LMAO! VGK had to give players away for nothing to get some space back.

If Colorado wants space, they'll need to provide and even pay.

By the way, funniest thing I read was " COL gives up the best player and best pick in the trade" from the other guy... Best pick of the trade.. They have a late pick and anyone who knows anything about hockey know that picks 25 to 50 can be a toss up depending on your needs. Right now, depth players is what AVS will need if they are to go at it again next year and years after that. Getting 3 picks for one that late isn't bad, heck replace my 2025 3rd round pick (VAN) with the 2025 2nd round pick (PIT) and it would still be viable for the HABS and provide assets for AVS.
