Very generous offer for Necas are you sure the Flyers want to spend that much?

RFA rights are worth significantly more than UFA rights - the latter are traded because on July 1st they can sign with any team, so a team acquires their rights prior to negotiate and prevent another team from signing the UFA. RFAs by definition cannot sign with another team (unless they do not received a qualifying offer) without an offer sheet.

The Flyers could trade a 3rd or later round pick for Brett Pesce in order to sign him before other teams get the chance on July 1st if he is a target of theirs and they are worried another team will sign him. The Flyers cannot sign Martin Necas on July 1st - only the Canes can - so this trade is not enough.

I'd have no problem changing it to a 2nd, but more than that is kinda much, no? If CAR can't afford his cap hit with some other raises happening, a 2nd is a good get. If a bidding war started however, I guess all bets are off.

Carolina can afford his cap hit, but even if they couldn't look at what Fiala or Reinhart got. Those were both for their RFA rights, and both returned a 1st and a prospect.

Eh, I'm not sure about the cap hit, they have 15+ free agents (RFA and UFA) of players that are in their lineup right now. They're going to look drastically different next year IMO. I agree though, I would certainly up the offer if he was a 100% slam dunk to be back, and I think they'd be crazy not to prioritize him. But you know how Waddell operates, or Dundon, whoever.

If the offer started at a 1st and a prospect, what prospect would you say gets it done?
