Necas 24-25

Created by: Sprak
Team: 2024-25 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2024
Published: May 18, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Necas to fill the Top RW until the arrival of Ryan Leonard; this move also takes offensive pressure off of Ovi and Strome.
Duclair (Danton Heinen, Dakota Joshua, or even Mantha) fills the void left by Mantha on the LW. I still believe that the Caps would have put up a fight in the playoffs if they kept Mantha, even though I'm happy with the return they got.

Trading TvR opens up the cap space to bring in two wingers and Allows Carolina to resign Guentzel and Jarvis without sacrificing depth, and, remember, the caps can only go over 10% of the cap as Backy and Oshie can't hit LTIR until just before the season starts

  1. Hänelt, Haakon [Reserve List]
  2. Suzdalev, Alexander
  3. van Riemsdyk, Trevor
  4. 2024 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
He would likely be the perfect fit in Washington, as their 1st line RW spot is open, and he can play center if needed. Eligable for an offer sheet and would likely fetch a new 6.5 ish contract (1st 2nd 3rd value), but Carolina doesn't need picks, they need players back. so 17th overall, TVR and Sudzy (Hanelt or equal prospect as a little extra value)

Im pretty sure Necas wants 7+ which is why he isn't signed yet by Carolina.

I mean, he has only produced to earn that much once, and then he went back down to his normal numbers this season. Most places I've read project his contract to be in the mid-6 million range.

If he was only 6 and a half I'm positive Carolina would've extended him by now.

They have to sign Guentzel and Jarvis (Both will make more than 6 million), another top 6 forward or two, and a top 4 defenceman. They don't have the money to pay Necas 6 million, regardless the caps have about 600000-700000 in offseason space to do this any way they could pay 7.1 million and still be under the 10% over the cap mark I believe

I know Carolina is hamstrung and might not get full value for Necas due to cap complications of siging Guentzel and Jarvis (as mentioned above), but I have to imagine Carolina would get a better deal than this. Suzdalev is not on track to play NHL games, nor is Hakon Hanelt. So it's TVR and a 1st for Necas. Value seems too low for Necas (who has a lot of problems in his game, but still should return more than a 1st an a bottom pair PK D...albeit a pretty above average bottom pair D). Just my thoughts

True I can see that, but I don't see a way (allegedly) disgruntled RFA the level of Necas is returning more than the equivalent of their offer sheet and the caps have extra 3rds (or 2nds) to make it happen. Also, I hugely disagree on the Suzdalev front, He was largely mishandled this season. He spent a month on the bench in Hershey until he was sent to Mora IK and then he was sent to a very deep Saskatoon team midway through the season (they already had their go-tos established at that point)

yeah that is a good point. His max value is the offer sheet and he most likely won't excatly that full value. When i do the offer sheet calculator on this contract tho, the compensation says two 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd.

I don't like doing weird numbers and 6.35 (what I had before I posted) is a fairly weird number lol

How, are they buying out the contract of KK.

LOL

What a mistake.

They have enough cap space to sign all three of those players alone, but they also need to fill out their middle Six and top 4. They only have 27 contracts right now, that's barely enough to be able to field an NHL team over a full season

Most of those wont count against the cap because they'll be minor league deals in the AHL, so that isn't a problem. They have enough to sign them all and then fill out the roster. The issue is the defense looses a lot of its oomph, but that's to be expected

6.35 for 7 years still makes the compensation package 2 (1st round picks) 1 (2nd round pick) and 1 (3rd round pick). I think the total contract value is divided by 5 instead of 7 per the CBA rules and that gives you the offersheet AAV that compensation is based off of. 6.35mm x 7 = 44,450,000. Then divide -> 44,450,000 / 5. Gives us our offer sheet AAV of 8,890,000 which correlates to the package I stated above. You'd think that the team that gets closest to that would get the Canes to accept.

how exactly do you plan on filling out the middle 6 and top 4 with AHL and younger players, while also signing Guentzel, Necas, and Jarvis. Where do you see those Guentzel, Necas, and Jarvis contracts coming in exactly?

Jarvis is getting bridged, it'll end up around 5. Necas around 6.75 with the extra 8th year. Guentzel, somewhere around 9 with the Carolina tax breaks, Nadeau and Blake join the forward core full time, Morrow joins the back end, and off the top of my head, I think there's still something like 6 million in space remaining?

yeah. Guentzel is prob around 8. Necas is 6.5. Jarvis on a bridge is at least 6.5. So there's 21mm right there. And you're gonna fill out the middle and bottom 6 and rest of your D with 6mm left? Having Jackson Blake, Bradley Neadeau, and Morrow helps, but you prob have to get 4 more NHL players in there for 6mm. Looks like Canes might needa bring on an LTIR contract then.

Jarvis isn't making 6.5 on a bridge. At MOST, it'll be like 5. One good year doesn't mean he's suddenly worth 6.5

The CapFriendly offer sheet calculator says $6,435,187 - $8,580,25 is 1 First Round Pick, 1 Second Round Pick, and 1 Third Round Pick

$8,580,251 - $10,725,314 is 2 First Round Picks, 1 Second Round Pick, and 1 Third Round Pick

unless the capfriendly numbers arent updated yet

idk man. Jarvis is pretty unreal and also as a playoff performer. If there's a bridge offer for 5, why would another team not come in an offer sheet 8 on a bridge deal to screw you. He's worth at least that imo. Carolina's hand would be forced to then only be able to retain 2 of the 3. And I do think Guentzel SHOULD resign in carolina because he looked incredible, but you're playing a real dangerous game if he causes a bidding war. To your point, he could def make 9.
