<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KINGS67</b></div><div>I understand this. Danault is suppose to be 3rd line.
I’ve been watching hockey for 27 years and im not even 40 lol. I understand how teams build their teams.

I’m still ok with PLD for now at least. I’m not going to put the blame on solely him for the Kings losing which a lot of people including Kings fans have done and it’s obnoxious.

Most people hate the guy because fans have labeled him a cancer in the room. He hasn’t been with the Kings and he wasn’t with WPG. CLB…yeah he was young and very immature. He had no say in where he was going to be traded. He had slight an advantage this year due to is UFA status next summer. He told WPG he wasn’t interested in signing so Chevy found a couple suites and the Kings had the “best offer”</div></div>

It’s easy to blame one player rather than the structure of the team. He was t the Kings only problem, but I do think they wanted him to drive his line more and his play in the playoffs was brutal.

Like it or not, he had a reputation as a clubhouse complainer in Winnipeg and flat out dogging it on shifts is something he is always going to live with. Winnipeg also improved their record by 15 points with that being the primary move they made pre deadline.

Unlike other Boston fans, I can see a path where Sweeney acquires PLD if Ullmark is incented to go to LA. My guess is it only happens if he knows he is out of the Lindholm UFA picture and even then, it’s an uphill battle. Physical time in the air from Stockholm isn’t as different as you’d think for flights and LA has a lot of direct flights. Its probably more the time zone difference.

I’ve been watching hockey longer than you’ve been alive. That said, incremental returns on knowledge after about 10 years are nominal. :)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>We aren't close to where New Jersey was before this season. Not by a long shot.

Yzerman completely avoided the question when asked if playoffs were the goal this year. I think he understands this team is going to take a step back. The only significant move he made last year was adding Debrincat and he's going enough to be around for quite some time. Petry and Compher are stop gaps. </div></div>

I think this is more you being overly critical of your team. Every team has flaws. Look at Jersey’s goalie, bottom lines on both forward and defense. Hell, I look at Boston and see holes they overcome with great coaching and Sweeney’s ability to find fits with cheaper players

Acknowledge Jersey has two centers that are the hardest part of the rebuild, but yours is damn good too and I take Moritz over most young defenders in the league.

When we faced Detroit, I always felt they looked better than Jersey last year and they had a better record.

Maybe I’m overrating your young talent across the board, but I don’t think I am. I’m also of the opinion that you may be giving Jersey too much credit based on their parts rather than the sum of their parts. I’m curious how Keefe is doing to do there. Personally always liked Ruff more and am curious to see how they do. I view Allen as an upgrade from Vanacek.

I don’t think the discrepancy between fringe playoff and perceived good team is that great.

As a third line option, probably some.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Buyout for Husso is more reasonable of Ullmark is traded at the draft, if it's an offseason move it makes it more complicated.

The money isn't awful for Detroit but in order to make upgrades we would have to make cap moves that likely cost us. Maatta and Fabbri are the likely candidates. Making those moves from a position of weakness instead of strength will likely cost us draft capital.

Cossa is still a few years away but so far he has been looking good. He called be looking at back up duties as soon as 25/26 season if he has another good year in GR.

I'm not opposed to Ullmark but I would rather send two seconds. Trading good prospects right now would slightly slow the rebuild. At least you picked someone from a position of strength for us. I feel like we shouldn't be trading prospects yet as we would have to draft a replacement and wait even longer for them to be impactful to the team.</div></div>

All you have to do is look at New Jersey to see what bad goaltending and rushing a kid who isn’t ready can do to a good team.

They basically took an athletic, young goalie prospect in Akira Schmid and made him fodder / killed his confidence to the point where he was average in the AHL. Supplemented him with their version of Husso in Vanacek. It was a brutal disaster where a team that should have made the playoffs has a top 10 pick.

My assumption is Boston would target Wallinder or Buium (Monty’s Denver connection) along with one second.

I don’t believe Yzerman thinks this team is that far from competing or he wouldn’t have done the moves he did last year. Frankly, people point to Jersey and you’re basically a similar team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJTM</b></div><div>Hi it’s me again. I have a hard time making the case for Detroit doing this. There are some problems:

1. There is a hidden cost in getting out of Ville Husso’s contract. Detroit probably has to give up a draft pick to get out of his contract which adds to their overall acquisition cost of Linus Ullmark.
2. Detroit has major work to do this off season. They have 5 unrestricted free agents that need to be retained or replaced and Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider need big time contracts.
3. I cannot see Detroit giving up any kind of significant treasure for a goaltender on an expiring contract when they have what they think is the goalie of the future (Sebastian Cossa) in waiting. You may not think he’s the goalie of their future, but they have to think internally that he is.</div></div>

1. Husso has only one year left on his contract and can be buried in the AHL His salary doesn’t change the fact that he sucks and isn’t an NHL caliber goaltender at this stage of his career. You can try to squeeze competence out of him, but it’s a fruitless exercise. .

2. Cossa is an interesting goalie prospect. If he emerges, it will likely be as part of a rotation. Waiting for a young goaltender to be a number 1 is just a terrible way to develop a goalie especially one who depends on athleticism vs fundamentals. Cossa can develop into an Ullmark type long term if developed correctly

3. They should be able to fit in Ullmark salary wise.and assess next year. Does Wallinder get a legitimate shot in Detroit? A second rounder is a flyer

Yzerman has been acquiring veterans to supplement this team. People want to pretend like young teams don’t have stabilizing presences on them. There is no such thing as trying to have all young players unless your objective is to get in the top 5 picks. Detroit is equipped to make the next step with some improvements

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bedsy_Burner</b></div><div>Maybe by your standards their defensive game isn't good, but they are absolutely one of the stronger teams defensively in the league. Defense isn't just about your group of dmen, it's about overall team defense. "High Danger Chances" are just a category determined by the area of the ice that the puck is being shot from. If the defensive structure is set up to allow the goalie to see and track the puck as well as closing of alternate options and back doors, that is a good defensive structure. BOS does that on a regular basis.

Neither of Swayman or Ullmark are in the top 20 in shots against, HD Shots against, or HD saves. Although, Sway did see a lot of rush attempts, so did most of the other top goalies in the league. The difference in games played is barely a factor and if anything benefits them by being able to shoulder a lighter load and rest more often than most goalies.</div></div>

I didn’t say the defense wasn’t good. I’m saying the goaltenders are massive part of it being good and are leaned on more than most “good teams” because their defense wasn’t particularly deep (Peeke looks like a steal) and they engage on offense more than a lot of systems. Their forecheck is solid. Not as good as the premium team, but acknowledge they are well coached

The primary difference in Ullmark is he’s become a fundamentally sound goalie and uses his size more effectively under Essensa. He should be a great get for whatever team acquires him.
