Who are your favorite sleepers for 2024
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanW711</b></div><div>Justin Poirer scored 51 in the Q but getting overlooked cause he's 5'8. High risk high reward. Hope flames grab him with one of their 2nds</div></div>
What really impressed me about him is being over one goal a game in the playoffs.
He's also actually pretty young for the draft class... he's only 18 in September. At 180 lbs at his size, he's probably going to be pretty strong on the puck. These types of players tend to be really good at crease crashing and banging in loose pucks. He intrigues me for sure...

Or do the devils have sellers remorse.

Markstrom trades
I have seen the #10 for Markstrom/Van pick scenario posted here before. It wouldn’t be my preferred route as NJD fan, but I think it’s plausible.

Was it ever just Holtz? I always thought he was the only confirmed piece of a package that they’d put together. I’m not gonna bs, Marky isn’t worth a top ten pick rn

Corey Pronman's Top 16 Mock with a Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SMH</b></div><div>In what world 29th and 9th gets you 5th</div></div>
Seems relatively reasonable to me, especially because the Canucks' pick isn't necessarily going to be 29th, it could be anywhere from 25-32 (25th if all 4 division winners lose this round). By the Athletic's pick values, pick 5 is 8.2 GSVA. I looked through 18 trades moving up in the first round and on average they gave around 10-20% over the value in return, so somewhere between 9.02 and 9.84 is the rough estimate of what it would cost, assuming the Habs were willing. Pick 9 is 6.3 GSVA and 29 is 3.0 GSVA and 9.3 is right in that range. In the unlikely scenario where it ends up as 25th that's 9.7 GSVA and if the Canucks win the cup it's 9.0. Obviously any trade like this will happen once the pick placement is known, but it really seems about right to me.
Considering in this case the Habs are trading back because they want a forward and they (accurately in this mock) think the next few players off the board will be d-men, essentially they lost nothing since their target was still there at 9 and they added a free late first.

**Conroy can easily Trade Marner at the 2025 Trade Deadline for 2 1st Rd picks and 2 decent prospects. Conroy begins his rebuild.
***Dillon Dubé signs his qualifying offer at 1 year. If it doesn't pan out with Toronto than he will hit free agency as a UFA.</div></div>
Three assumptions I expect will not happen.

Weegar will never be a Leaf, not so long as Treliving is there. Flames have no interest in trading Weegar anyways, the only way we do is if it’s a massive overpay.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>Out of curiousity, what do you think is a reasonable price for either of them?</div></div>
You should be able to get Mangi without retention for a 2nd. Kuzy would take more, hard to say how much more, he's been a good fit in Calgary so far, they'll want to see how he does next year so it'd take a very good offer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanW711</b></div><div>I was under the impression from Habs fans online that their biggest need was Wingers. But youre right they could do anything with that pick</div></div>
Montreal's biggest need is probably center, but forwards is applicable because they have guys who play both positions. Specifically they want size and elite offensive talent. But that's also the tiebreaker when drafting.
Either way, Calgary doesn't really have the ability to make the trade without overpaying in futures.

Markstrom to detroit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuzzledActuary</b></div><div>How is he underrated?
Goalies are mostly products of the team in front of them. You don't need a $6M+ goalie to win a cup.</div></div>
Idk, I was just talking out of my ass. There are points when he’s underrated though. Plus, if goaltending is a product of the team in front of them, then LA should have great goaltending, and NJD would’ve made the playoffs. Goaltending dictates how your season goes and how well your team does. Markys a good example of that. We shouldn’t have even been close to a wildcard spot at the deadline, but because of Marky we were. Average goaltending doesn’t win cups.

The late 1st round of this draft is negligible. They got a prospect that they value that was drafted in the 2nd and a 2nd round pick. There’s zero need for Ceci, you’re countering your own point, he’s better than Gilbert but they’re not going to compete

Markstrom not happy with Conroy
No first in a trade involving a top pairing dman and a top 5 goalie this year is absolutely hilarious
And no the Flames haven't lost leverage because they can simply keep Markstrom and trade away Hanifin to the highest bidder so you guys would still have to pay a premium for both, id argue its actually Fitz who's lost leverage because he's said that he'll offer the same package without retention so clearly he's desperate to make the playoffs, while the Flames just sold off one of their biggest trade pieces so they're clearly in sell mode and not worried about the playoffs.

Markstrom not happy with Conroy
How do you figure Conroy has lost the leverage?
Devils want the player Conroy has the player. They don't have to trade Markstrom and Hanifin has an 8 team NTC. Lets say that's all of Canada, AZ, and pick whatever bad team at the time. Even if there are 8 out of the 16 playoff teams rights its still a massive market with other teams chasing. He's going to go to the highest bidder and Markstrom can stay in CGY
