Chicago is not in the market for a goalie of Ullmark's caliber and they are certainly not in the market to trade their 2025 1st unless it's for an under 23 year old with top line talent.

I get Panarin's fallen off this postseason, but Laine has barely played. What does that accomplish besides cap space?

Trade ideas
If this postseason was any indication, LA's lack of depth absolutely killed them against EDM. They are trending in the wrong direction, and I have them missing playoffs next season. Ehlers is a good player but he doesn't get you to the next level. I don't think this team is any better.

Marner to Music City
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Here's the other thing about potential Marner trade. He isn't going to a poor team....only a good team without a new contract. And who has the cap for him? Without a contract, Marner stays a Leaf and builds his point total in his contract year.
Leafs have no picks in first four rounds in June 2025, so they are in win mode. I'd be quite happy keeping Marner for one more year, and then not resign him, and fill out the roster in the summer of 2025 with new found non Marner cap. There are 190 upcoming UFAs in 2025, they all don't get traded. But somehow trading Marner is such a necessity for so many Leafs fans
Haven't seen one Boston post, trading upcoming UFA Marchand or even few Draisaitl trades.</div></div>
I'm indifferent. I think the roster needs a shake up and moving Marner will likely provide some additional cap space to create a deeper team. Stamkos has to be #1 on their list, I can't see him staying in Tampa given their cap situation. He's a proven winner that would be perfect for the room.
The best fit for Marner in my mind is Utah. They have plenty of assets, cap, and want to make a splash. We all know Toronto is getting .70 cents to the dollar on this deal, which makes even more sense for Utah. They acquire an elite playmaker to solidify their top 6 and gain hype/momentum in a new market. Meanwhile, Toronto could probably pry away Vejmelka and a couple 2nd round picks. Now TOR has assets to use via trade if they don't like the free agent market (Which I will say is pretty thin).
Keeping him is a choice, I don't think this team will magically find the sweet spot next season. Florida will find a way to keep everyone, the Rangers aren't going anywhere. Boston is always going to be Boston. Maybe you trade him at the deadline for 50% off, but if you're in the 3rd playoff spot in the division, are you trading away a top 6 F? Seems like a waste of the season, but letting him go as a UFA in 2025 is poor asset management. It just doesn't seem like there's a winning outcome if you keep him.

576 194 445 639 Marner.</div></div>
It's not about numbers. It's about contract status, trade leverage, and current market. His NMC complicates things, the fact that Toronto is open to big moves means his name is likely out there already, so everyone knows what they're trying to do.
1. He has to waive NMC for a team.
2. Said team has to have the aspirations of a contender, otherwise why trade for him?
2. Said team with aspirations of a contender has to have cap space to acquire AND extend him.

Marner to Music City
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>.You really overestimate the trade value of Marner. You think Nashville doesn't have star power? Forsberg had 48 goals (Marner 26) and 94 points and he makes 8.5m. You really think Marner is worth 12m, 3.5m more than Forsberg?
Nashville keeps Fabbro, Evanglista at 3.5m rather Marner and Timmins at 12m. For the difference 8.5, they sign a very good UFA. And you think the Leafs deserve a 1st, a 3rd and former first round Molendyck too?</div></div>
Pretty much all of this. The Leafs aren't getting the haul for Marner some think. You just have to hope they at least get one NHL caliber D man and a couple 2nd/3rd round picks. With Liljegren on the block, they will have trade assets to go after several players if they choose.

I don't care that Zach Hyman is on any other team. He's still a 50 goal scorer. Don't underestimate the importance of going to the hard areas of the ice. I would tell you flat out Hyman is by far the worst 50 goal scorer I've ever watched, but he's a helluva net presence/power forward. TOR will not make the same mistake twice. They'll continue to give Knies top 6 time and he's earned it.

I bet you thought the same about Hyman and now he's a 50 goal scorer. Knies is a very similar player to Hyman. A power forward that creates space for skill guys. He's the perfect complementary piece for a high end forward.

Pulock (Or mayfield+) makes a ton of sense for WPG, and I'd argue that's an appropriate price for NYI to pay. The next question is if the players waive NTCs.

So the Preds trade a guy already in their top 6, their number 1 G, and a 1st rounder for a guy who has a full NMC, everyone knows he's going to get moved, and is due for a new contract. Yeah Nashville ain't taking that. The Leafs have no leverage in a Marner trade and everyone knows that.

I don't think this makes the team any better, Sprong is solid but I don't think they want anything over 2 years at this point unless it's a bonafide top line forward. I think there's a legitimate chance Kane comes back.

895 and maybe 1000 as a Hawk
Chicago has no need for Wilson and his albatross contract that is already one of the worst in the league. There are other ways KD could/should build this team like acquiring RFAs in need of a change of scenery or buying low on someone who underperformed in a difficult situation. This isn't it. Wilson is 30, Ovi is basically coasting to 895, there's no need to even consider this.

Because the draft is defense heavy, and they don't need anymore defensemen. Frankly, they don't need many more prospects in general, they've been drafting them for the past 15 years and haven't made the playoffs. Hawks could easily add more picks, it all depends on where Buffalo finishes.
