One of the least successful teams in the salary cap era because of their cheapness.</div></div>
Since Devils came into existence in 1982, Devils have won more cups, won more conference titles, won more division titles, appeared in more cup finals, won more games, won more playoff games, appeared in more playoff games, won more playoff rounds, won more major trophies, and produced more Hall-of-Famers.....than the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I'm good with it

Trade Draisaitl and keep Bouch. Bouch is younger and long term more important. Even for as amazing as Drai is. If Drai wants to max out his deal. Good for him! But Oilers cannot afford him to do that. Get a good D-man, a good forwards and something else for him.
Examples:
Parayko
Buch (50% retained)

LA is just not a fit right now with our cap situation. Priority is re-signing Byfield. Danault is too reliable of a middle 6C to be giving up, and I highly doubt he waives his trade clause to go back to eastern canada.

Well in the Tkachuck deal they got 2 pending UFAs, a 1st and a low end prospect. But I actually wasn't using the Tkachuck deal as a template. It just turned out to look like that.

Nylander equals JT
You have a good point about Tavares and Nylander. Unfortunately for the Leafs, the flat cap due to Covid and the NHLs inability to secure a high US national revenue contract has made the 11m cap hit of Tavares worse than what it thought to be when he signed as a Leaf
Tavares has seemed to hit the wall....due to his skating and it happens to a lot players in their early 30s or a bit later.
Nylander may never hit the "skating wall", but geez, the Leafs paid an premium on an eight contract for Nylander. As you suggest will he be good value?....we can more objective discussion in spring 2032.

Toffoli still has Edmonton and Ottawa, he's still too young for Toronto.
Don't doubt that people will dislike the Nylander signing at some point, some already do, but I don't think people would have minded the Tavares contract as much if there wasn't a flat cap for all those years. It might happen again, who knows?

Agree with you....and Amirov was a left winger, which is about the easiest position to fill, never mind the problems of his development in Russia.
Scheneider or Jersey's Mercer, IMO were the more logical picks.

Marners trade value on this site
Leaf jealousy runs hot on this site 🤷🏻; you nailed it - Marner (if it even happens) will be traded after July 1 bonus and will (logic would dictate) only waive to somewhere where he can sign a lucrative extension. In this scenario he would be THE most valuable piece in the market - no FA would come close given his age, skill set and productivity. The trade return will be what it is but cap friendly has never been, nor went will be, logical when it comes to valuing Leaf players. Like I said jealousy is a strong motivator

Force Marner to preform a magically season.
Everyone forgets Willy was doing a magically season to boost his contract value by scoring a 120+ point pace, just the moment he signed, his play and on ice effort dipped and he went back to being a 80 point pace player.
Don't make the same mistake twice.</div></div>
Possibly hold him, unless there’s a perfect hockey trade answer, possibly Vegas/nashville/dallas, lots of depth and different options for a trade. Not a bad plan, ufas coming so even if the money goes off the books, the talent can be replaced.

Leafs - Running it back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>Wow, 50 games, huh, where is M. Jones after playing 48 games for your team>?
100% be cautious believing Daccord is a bonafid #1 starter.</div></div>
Jones put up a 2.99 GAA and .887 Sv% in his 48 starts and was largely unseated by Grubauer post All-Star Break. Daccord had a 2.46 GAA and .916 Sv% in his 50 starts. By any metric, Daccord was far superior to Jones when comparing their respective performances with the Kraken, so you can't really say they're comparable at this stage of their respective careers or use Jones' trajectory to extrapolate that of Daccord.
Daccord might not be a bonafide #1 starter yet, but he just had a very good season and was a well-above average NHL goalie no matter how you slice it. We'll see if his strong play continues, but I think if the Kraken maintain their strong defensive structure and figure out a way to give Daccord a true partner in net to create a 1A/1B situation, he'll be just fine.

Mistakes were made already from teams resigning 1 year wonders, too many to list.</div></div>
Seattle's shown a willingness to extend important players in-season (see the McCann and Eberle extensions), so I wouldn't be surprised to see Daccord also get an extension in the middle of next season if he continues to play well.

goalie version of Lucic for Neal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>The buyout breakdown is better for Korpisalo than Campbell.
Also Korpisalo can still play in the Nhl IF the Oilers decide to weaken their forward depth to improve their goalies.
I picked forwards over goalie depth but the other option is good too.</div></div>
I feel like Campbell's is better. Higher cap hits but it's not nearly as long. So, as long as they don't need the extra 400K or so to fit Draisaitl or McDavid, they'll probably be better off having him off the books. I think they would be better off playing Korpisalo. Forward corp needs work, especially bottom 6 but I think they still need another top 4 D, so would put any savings there.

If he doesn't want to move his family maybe he would take league minimum. Similar to what Bergeron did in Boston. JT on the wing isn't a bad option because he is a great guy along the boards and could maybe have more net presence instead of worrying about being first guy back defensively.

Marners Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>$11 million spent in UFA would be a disaster, remember Tre spent $5.5 million on Bert, $4.2 million on Klingberg and $1.3 million on Reaves.
How did that work out for the Leafs >?</div></div>
I don't think Treliving did too bad in free agency as you don't win them all and Bert and Kling's deals are 1-year and Reaves could be buried for most of it. In the end, it did turn out fine. That being said I don't want him binge-shopping in FA. If Marner's entire cap comes off the book they'll have nearly 30M to spend and would surely end up with 2 or 3 bad long-term contracts + same results more than likely or worse.
