leafs would decline. i doubt they are in the market for a franchise goalie when that guy could be woll. i think they want a tandem until woll is ready. value wise i think its pretty close to fair,

I have seen the #10 for Markstrom/Van pick scenario posted here before. It wouldn’t be my preferred route as NJD fan, but I think it’s plausible.

yeah I'd imagine it only happens if NJ cant get a deal done for Ullmark or Saros

I think the whole goalie carousel moves after the draft. Bruins will want to sell Ullmark with extension on the table (and will want Swayman extension done). Nashville probably wants same with Saros (or maybe extend him themselves). Markstrom has a big bonus July 1st. It all points to the dominoes falling in July…so Devils 2025 1st is probably the pick that ultimately gets moved for a goalie.

The caveat is that (according to Michael Russo) Minnesota may use Gustavsson to move up in 2024 draft. So they could have first-mover advantage.

We shall see…will be interesting summer.

Jersey should probably consider moving down for him then, depending on if and what Minnesota wants them to add. I suspect they value Gustavsson more than the 45th OV pick. I think Gustavsson and Schmid could be a great tandem. They got Allen for a year, which gives Schmid more time to develop. Seems to me like a perfect fit.

Woll does have injury issues and Markstrom would probably be a viewed as a 2-year rental (unless he dominates the crease). I agree that they probably should be looking for a tandem goalie instead of using the few assets they have on a high-end goalie, but depending on the additions they are able/unable to make, they might see it as a way to improve.

just not interested in spending a first on a goalie. plus i think the rout they are going to go is a woll tandem. if woll is healthy he is a starting goalie

If Markström was the piece that got Kane and Stamkos to sign would you make this trade? It's only a pick.

But I don't see that happening so I agree Detroit passes.

Same, I just mean they feel the need to do something if they aren't able to add one or two top-4D. I would want them to get Gustavsson assuming the ask is not too much. If not I think maybe Talbot would be a good add instead of someone like Stolarz.

i think nedeljkovic would be a great tandem guy if he had a good D core ahead of him. Gustavsson would be sweet too

Nashville was pretty clear that they wanted Mercer in a Saros deal and I imagine Boston is going to ask for similar. Also neither of them would come with the retention

Which is fine considering Saros is a way better goalie and younger than Markstrom.

I'm not arguing that, Saros is a top 5 goalie in the league. Markstrom is probably ranked around 10th. Big difference is Saros is going to get a big paycheck next year

The majority of Boston fans expect a 25 1st+sweeteners.

The rental goalie market is not particularly pricey.

Boston fans are not management though. Ullmark was almost traded at the deadline in a deal around PLD though and if Boston was interested in PLD I think they view him as a valuable asset and someone who would improve their roster

I have a hard time seeing any team moving a first round pick for an average 34 year old goalie. Teams could get his production in UFA for a fraction of the cost. Back to back years with an .892 and 905 Sv% on an aging goalie don't return 1st round picks. Maybe a real late 1st from a desperate team but I see him going for a prospect and a 2/3 rounder at best.
