Major trades and signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>For 6 years, no. Definitely not. But if the roster was the same as it is now, I could definitely see the Hawks targeting Jones for at least 3 years to play on top pair. Hawks have no other options on RD, and even if they take Levshunov, he's at least 3 seasons away from stepping into a top pair role. Trading Jones now because you don't think you'll want the contract down the road is really short sighted.</div></div>
Agreed, the Hawks do have an issue an RD... and if they made this trade without a plan in free agency it wouldn't be great next year.... but there are a few RD available in FA that they could sign to 3 year or less terms... even if they had to overpay its still less term and cap than Jones. I'm less worries about Jones right now than I am in the last few years of this contract when the Hawks will need the cap space.

Major trades and signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Except that the Hawks aren't trying to trade Jones or clear his cap hit. Jones is somewhat overpaid now, but that contract will look less and less bad as the cap starts to rise again. And despite all the negativity about him on this site, when you watch him play, especially this season w/ Vlasic as his partner, he played really well. Those two together are a legit top pairing. Now, will Jones play at that level for another 6 years until the end of his contract? Who knows? But the Hawks would rather take that risk than the risk of not being able to resign Marner and not having Jones either.</div></div>
It's an interesting perspective....however, it's also interesting to admit that if Jones were a Free Agent today, would the Hawks sign him to a 6-year, 8-million-dollar deal (less than what he makes now)? The answer is unequivocally no....because his age, contract term, and to some degree, style of play don't fit what the Hawks are doing. This alone should be a reason to try to trade this contract and why I wouldn't be surprised if this trade for Marner happens.

That is NOT what Davidson said - He basically said he WOULD make moves to be competitive by next year. By the time these contracts are up, the young players will be ready to take over....while gaining experience in the AHL and call-ups for injuries.....

The Hawks definitely say yes to this. I'm not so sure Skinner says no either...lots of players might take the chance to play with Bedard, and I'm not so sure the Hawks are further off than the Sabres.. additionally the Hawks would be in a position to keep more salary to trade him at a deadline.

I like it. It's simple, and barring a horrible injury bug, this roster should be significantly better than the 23-24 season. Which coincides with KD's stated goals for next season.</div></div>
Ha, if I were Entwistle, would I bury myself???

There is room in the cap to pay Kane more if needed.

Hawks get creative
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Viqsi</b></div><div>There is precisely one asset in Chicago that would make Fantilli discussions be considered at all, and said asset is decidedly not available.</div></div>
If the Hawks win the lottery, you don't think Columbus would be interested in Celebrini, a 1st next year, a D asset, and a 2nd?
I did this trade because I would rather have Fantilli's size than Celebrini's overall skill. Most articles I've read have Fantilli challenging Celebrini for 1st overall if they were both being drafted this year, but almost none of them have Fantilli over Celebrini - it's a 1A/1B scenario - but Celebrini is 1A.
Either way - I was just messing around - it'll be interesting to see all 3 of them on the same team in the world championships soon.

Would this team be in the conversation for a wild card spot
Unfortunately, this team wouldn't score enough to be in contention. This team might break 70 points, if healthy most of the year....but being mediocre is not a great place to be in the NHL. If they make a splash with trades and Free agency I hope it's more than this.

Amazing Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojme</b></div><div>Sabres with zero reason to trade back</div></div>
Just used them as a placeholder - I'm seeing Eiserman go a few picks later than 10 right now. Hawks have a ton of picks in the next 3 drafts to use as assets.... Also I've read in a few places that the consensus of this draft is that after the first 5 picks, there isn't much of a difference to mid 2nd round....so, if this is true, the Sabres or any other team could be tempted to stockpile more picks and still get the same value with later picks.

If Eiserman does indeed fall to 14/mid-1st, I truly hope the Hawks trade some of their draft capital to move up to get him. Bedard, Eiserman, whoever they get at 1-4 will be very good.

I think Vacouver considers without the 1st rounder. Myers straight to Chicago with the cap hit has been reported as a straight 2nd to Chicago.... in lieu of the 2nd and Kurashev and the other pieces they might get Boeser.

Hawks get Bedard and Fantili
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KDev</b></div><div>If the roles were flipped do you honestly think you would accept that trade? The answer is no</div></div>
A couple of points about your comment. I used actual real-world draft pick values to determine this trade and the Hawks actually give up a little more value than they receive, about a 3rd rounder on this. With that said, I believe Fantili to be the real deal, and if he falls to 3 I personally wouldn't do this trade (because of Fantili, but otherwise I would)...unless, I was only worried about short-term and was in win-now mode, which Columbus is in. Could they take a few of those picks and a prospect and turn it into Konecky out of Phily? Probably. Could they bring in a 3rd team and trade these picks in order to get Sheifele out of Winnipeg? Probably.. (Winnipeg doesn't want picks for Sheif). Are either Konecky or Scheifele better than Fantili long-term...I don't think so but Scheif did score 42 last year. Are both better than Fantili next year - absolutely. This draft is historically good and very deep and those early 2nd rounders are very valuable.

You can't afford him at 4.3M.... and you have no idea how absolutely miserable a team like the Blackhawks could make the Rangers this offseason.....Drury should have made a handshake deal with the Hawks for the Kane trade for a 1st, that the Hawks wouldn't offer sheet any Rangers RFA's.

Both Miller and Laff get offer sheets at that salary. Also, this team is over the cap because the Rangers have bonus carryover from this year. I don't see how you are going to be able to keep both Miller and Laff this off-season.

Then prepare for Laff to get an offer sheet and receive a 2nd rounder in comp. There is no way the Rangers will sign Laff for anything less than 4.3 mill. as a 21-year-old RFA and former 1st OA. Panarin is 31 years old now, and yes - he had another good regular season - but his salary today makes him almost untradeable, soon it will be even worse. This is the Rangers chance to get out from under the cap hell that will plague them for awhile.

Agreed, this is similar to what Chicago did when they tried to get rid of Bickells contract back in the day - they ended up having to throw in Terravainen to do so. There are a few teams out there that have the cap space to take on a big contract and give the Rangers some flexibility. This is the better option that losing Laff for a 2nd rounder in an offer sheet.

This is pretty good - but if the Rangers plan on signing Laff to that low of contract, expect him to get an offer sheet - anything less than 4.2 is a 2nd round comp.... lot of teams will take a 2nd round flyer on him.

Finally, someone understands what it would take to get the #1 pick, this is similar to the Lindros haul minus the 15Mill (I think it was 15mill - going off memory). I'm a Hawks fan and I submitted a trade proposal on here except with the Canucks and was laughed off.....of course, a trade like this is likely never to happen again. This draft is really deep - very little difference in players outside of the top 7, all the way to the end of the 3rd round. Trading 3 picks for a player at 14 that doesn't isn't going to be much better than a 3rd rounder isn't going to work - throw the NHL draft value guides out with this draft - it's really deep with excellent value outside of goalies everywhere.

Good luck fitting Laff and 4.3 million under the cap - cause otherwise he is absolutely an offer sheet candidate. I'd love to see the Hawks offer both he and Miller twin 4.2 million offer sheets and watch Drury and every Rangers fan sweat as they realized they just lost the #1 OA pick for a 2nd rounder because they overpaid for Panarin and Trouba....even if he matches the Rangers are absolutely screwed. Absurd comment.... he absolutely takes the call because the Rangers have cap issues... they can't spend up the limit next year because of bonuses this year.... go make a Rangers team with a cap limit of 80-81 million and if you think the Rangers sign Laff to 2 million bucks, I got a offer sheet waiting for you. Compensation for any RFA signed from 2.1 to 4.2 is 1 2nd rounder. Now that I think about it the 2nd and 4th is more than enough unless the Rangers plan to sign him for more than 4.2+
